FreeShells.ch Policy
Undesired activity
There are certain activities which may not be illegal or abusive, but
are still not encouraged on FreeShells.ch. These are not wanted for
reasons of system/network performance or simply because they are not
within the intended purpose of this service. These unwanted items
include:
- The use of IRC bots, eggdrops, BNC bouncers, Psybnc, peer-to-peer, tor, etc.
- Using screen to stay connected to IRC chat while logged off.
- Forwarding, onion routing, tunnelling, proxying, relays, anonymizing, or connection hiding
- Running frequent cronjobs that may be CPU or network intensive
- Using FreeShells.ch to bypass firewall restrictions of other organizations
- Running a network service, background process, or daemon when logged off
If such activity is noticed or reported, the processes will be killed
without warning. Repeated offenders will have their accounts
disabled.
Acceptable Use Policy
FreeShells.ch does not tolerate any malicious, abusive or illegal behavior
by its users. In particular, the following activity/material violates
policy:
- Malicious hacking/DoS against FreeShells.ch infrastructure or users
- Activity which threatens the integrity, security, or availability of
FreeShells.ch infrastructure
- Malicious hacking/DoS against
other entities on the Internet
- Spamming or unsolicited mass emailing
- Illegal pornographic or violent material
- Illegal copyrighted material or warez
- Terrorist related material or activity
- Hate/intolerance related material or activity
- Fraud and phishing websites or activity
- Harassment or cyber-bullying
- Any other malicious, abusive or illegal behavior
If such activity is detected or reported, the
following actions may be taken:
- it will be investigated (including review of logs and user data)
- it may be reported to the appropriate legal authorities
- it may be reported to other involved/affected organizations
- the user account may be locked or removed
- the user's data may either be destroyed or kept as evidence
- a history of logged activity by the user may be extracted as evidence
- source IP addresses or ranges may be blocked

Privacy Policy
FreeShells.ch has a privacy policy regarding user data:
- In general, user privacy is considered important and is respected.
Your activities and data are your own business
- FreeShells.ch implements basic security measures to protect user
data from regular Internet attacks and probes, but it does not guarantee
the protection of user data
- FreeShells.ch implements basic security measures to prevent users
from browsing each other's directories, but it does not guarantee the
protection of the user data. It is the user's responsibilty to set
permissions or encrypt files
- FreeShells.ch does not sell or pass user data on to third parties
(unless collected as evidence of an incident)
- FreeShells.ch does not provide a general anonymity service for
users. If the acceptable use policy has been violated, user data may be
provided to authorities or affected organizations on request (but only
if there is clear evidence of abuse)
Service Guarantee
Freeshells.ch does not guarantee any level of service, availability,
data protection, or backup. However, an effort is made to provide
quality service:
- High quality 64bit Sun UltraSparc architecture
- Robust NetBSD Unix Operating System
- Monitored, synchronous leased line with QoS
- Regular tape backup and standby hardware in the event of failure
- Regular vulnerability management and system patching
- Monitoring of logs, system status, and performance
